The special "treat" for me was to come upon a small jam in the dark Saturday
night and discover Norman Blake playing one of his railroading songs for about
six people. I guess he had appeared on stage earlier in the festival, but to
see him out there among us common folks and playing a borrowed guitar was
something I'll always remember. That and observing the flatpicking "clinic"
at Ed Wade's trailer where the Ga Tech student (Tom Barnwell's young protege)
was learning some hot licks from the Flatpick-L guy from Hunstville with the
'47 D-18. Unfortunately I don't remember either of their names. But when things
like that happen, I know the future of bluegrass is assured.
