The Tennessee Fall Homecoming began in 1980 when George
Brose, then representing The Council of Southern Mountains book store
in Berea, KY called John Rice Irwin to ask permission to bring his
motorized van of specialty books to the museum for the weekend. Fearing
low attendance for the event, Mr. Irwin requested that local musicians
show up to help bring in the crowd. The rest is history!
Mac Wiseman and
John Hartford have performed many times at the Fall Homecoming.
Please Note the following Dates: The 21st Annual Tennessee Fall Homecoming (2000 dates:

The Homecoming is a celebration of the
culture and heritage of Appalachia with over 400 old-time musicians, singers,
craftspeople, artisans, and demonstrators of rural, pioneer, and mountain
activities such as boiling molasses and sawmilling. The Homecoming was
selected as one of the Top 100 events in North America in 1999 by the American
Bus Association and it has been named as one of the Top 20 October Events
in the Southeast by the SE Tourism Society for ten years.
