Purpose of Lab: Sound and Music

Use music to clarify the following:

1. amplitude - A change in energy - loudness, NO CHANGE in l , frequency, or tone

2. wavelength - l , distance from 1 point on a wave to the same point on a neighboring wave.

3. frequency - No. of l 's moving past a point in 1 second (Hertz)

4. quality - Allows us to distinguish between 2 tones of same frequency and l .

5. loudness - Dependent upon energy in waves.(Decibels) Related to amplitude NOT frequency or l .

6. tone - pitch - high or low tone. Not related to amplitude. Related to frequency and l .

7, pitch - tone - interchangeable

*** Wavelength and frequency are INVERSELY related. As one increases the other decreases.

Questions: How are amplitude and loudness related?
