Harrison WorldLAB Symposium

Topic:Oceanography

Group Members:Sandy and Katy

Question guiding the project: What is Oceanography and what do oceanographers find out?

Overview of the three required learning activities:
1. Tennessee Aquarium
2. Seafood Dept.
3. Web Page

Findings (list):
1. Oceanography covers alot of different subjects.
2. Kelp is the largest plant in the ocean.
3. Whale shark is the largest shark.
4. The deepest that any scuberdiver has ever traveld is only 133m.
5. The blue whale is the largest sea animal and also the largest animal that ever existed.
6. The worlds smallest shark is the spined pygmy shark from the pacific ocean.
7. Every death in the ocean is a feast-nothing on the ocean floor goes to waste.

Conclusions: How was question answered:
1. Oceanographers study a wide range of topics.
2. They study how pollution affects the oceanic enviroment, the currents in the ocean , and migrating of fish.
3. They also study the life of fish and how they grow.
4. Oceanography is not just studying about the life of fish, but also the ocean itself and plant life.

Questions raised for further study:
1. How does pollution affect the ocean and the life it holds?
2. How do the way fish move affect the way they catch food?
3. What do oceanographers think about their job?
4. How do the currents of the ocean affect the migrating of fish?
5. Would you ever consider being an oceanographer?
6. What is the difference between salt water and fresh water fish?
